Customer ReviewsYou get what you pay for. By Megan on 12 October 2014 For my first serger, it's fine. I'm not happy that the upper knife broke after about a month of use. I went ahead and bought both the upper and lower knife replacements, which cost $40. It's a cheap machine, so I did not expect much. I am happy to be able to produce nicely finished garments with it. It needs to be re-threaded all the time; I'm anticipating another part breaking in the near future. If you can, save up for something better. It's a nice instant gratification--I can't say that I regret buying it. I assumed it would be troublesome. But I am a broke twenty-something-year old. I would not recommend buying this machine if you have the means to do better.
Love it!! By Lindsey R. Whitney VINE VOICE on 10 October 2014 I was a little hesitant to buy this since I'm fairly new to sewing and have only been doing it seriously for about a year now. However, I've begun to sell things on Etsy and I wanted some of my things to have a more polished and finished look. This seemed like a good machine to try and I have LOVED it so far. The DVD instructions were very helpful and once you get the hand of threading it, it is such a time saver. I have to admit, the first time I tried to thread the whole machine from scratch, it took about an hour and I just about threw the machine out, but I must have been having a bad day, because it only take about 4 minutes ever since then!
A let down By Amazon Customer on 9 October 2014 I'm pretty displeased with the 1034D Previously I had a PFAFF that was on loan from a local performance company. Compared to the PFAFF going to the 1034D is like going from a Mercedes to a cruddy 1998 4 cylinder Ford mustang. It looks cool, ( well almost, its mostly just cheap plastic) but it definitely doesn't drive smooth. The tension seems more fickle than it should. The thread bar keeps sliding down as it serges.
Extremely pleased with my purchase By cookiebakingfool on 8 October 2014 Extremely pleased with my purchase. I am not a person that sews much. This machine is simple and fun to work with. So many projects, so little time.
Love my serger By Nereida Paris on 3 October 2014 Love my serger. I've altered several pieces of clothing and they all look professionally done. The only issue I had was rethreading the lower looper. Stitches kept breaking. Took me a while to figure out exactly where the thread should go even when staring at the documentation. The picture was not clear to me. I watched several You Tube videos and finally found a better picture on the Brother web site that made it clearer. Back in business now. Love it!
